To all my students and parents:
I wonder if anyone really reads these letters. But I will still endeavor to write them as often as I can for even that 'one.'
We have a shortened week this week which is good and bad. It is good as there was a lovely three day weekend in honor of Dr. King that allowed for reflection in rest; maybe even some fun. It is bad as there is much, much to do and it makes it "too much of a muchness."
In the CORE classes we are already to take the selection test on "After Twenty Years." The students have also begun reading the class IRP novel, either "Hatchet" or "Where the Red Fern Grows." Their first take-home-book-guide test is due next Monday.
The HONORS are doing their best to complete their Panel Projects for the Honors Winter Fine Arts program. Second period is a flurry of typing, drawing, gluing and cutting. I am excited to see the finished product. Meanwhile, they are reading "Catherine Called Birdy", a story of a very rebellious fourteen-year-old during the Middle Ages. How would you like it if your parents picked who you were to marry? Birdy is at once childish and mature, a lady and a delinquent. The students are also reading about the reality of daily life in the Middle Ages while they learn about the wars and kings and all sorts of things in their history classes.
Next week we will get back to reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary in all classes in preparation for the next district benchmark test.
It is already Wednesday!
Good Afternoon!
Sincerely,
Wendy MacDonald
